Pet Vaccinations in our Overland Park & Leawood Animal Hospital

Happy-boy-and-his-fluffy-dog

Nothing is more important to us than the health of your pet and this means we design individual wellness plans for all our patients.  The key to your pet’s long and robust life is to start them off with the proper pet vaccinations which begin the process of building their immune system for lifelong protection against disease.  Not only do we provide every kitten and puppy with these critical building blocks, we administer boosters along the way. Vaccinations are divided into two types: core and non-core.

Core Vaccines for Dogs

Some of the diseases a dog is susceptible to can be fatal, an unnecessary outcome given the advances in medical science. The core vaccines protect your dog from these dangerous diseases:

  • Rabies
  • Parvovirus
  • Canine Distemper
  • Canine Hepatitis
  • Leptospirosis

The initial regime, which we recommend beginning at 9 weeks old, will later require different plans depending on state regulations, your dog’s age, health and lifestyle.  We will work with you on your dog’s specific requirements.

Non-Core Vaccinations for Dogs

The non-core vaccines are optional and depend on your needs and lifestyle. These include:

  • Lyme Disease
  • Infectious Bronchitis
  • Canine Influenza

Here at Blue Valley Animal Hospital in Overland Park, we’ll evaluate your dog’s unique environmental factors to decide what’s the best course for them.

Core Vaccinations for Cats

Cats also have serious disease enemies, and thus we recommend the following core vaccinations for them:

  • Rabies
  • Feline Panleukopenia (distemper)
  • Feline Herpes Virus and Calicivirus (respiratory infections)
  • Feline Chlamydia

These vaccinations will protect them from dangerous illness and disease.

Non-Core Vaccinations for Cats

If your cat is an indoor-outdoor cat who is around other outdoor animals, we definitely recommend the following vaccine, as this disease can be fatal.

  • Feline Leukemia

Your cat will have the best chance of complete protection from these fatal diseases if they receive vaccines at their first wellness visit at 8 weeks of age. Following will be a series of booster shots to ensure their immunity continues to build. It is important that you work with us to ensure they receive this protection. In addition to his immunization plan, we also build your pet’s long-term health with annual physicals and other preventative medicine that ensure their health.
